Isabelle to return in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Fan-favorite character Isabelle has been confirmed to appear in the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons; however, it sounds like her appearance is tied to in-game progress players have made.

The news comes from an interview IGN had with Animal Crossing: New Horizons developers Aya Kyogoku and Hisashi Nogami.

“If Tom Nook is a great recruiter, and if he succeeds with the Nook Inc. Deserted Island Getaway Package PR, then [Isabelle] may come back,” Kyogoku said.

According to the interview, whether or not Isabelle stays depends on the direction the player takes with their island.

All players will begin the game in a tent, and can choose to either remain in one or build their town up to something akin to past Animal Crossing games.

“If the player chooses to stay in the tent, Tom Nook may say ‘Hey, actually, that guy likes living more of an outdoorsy, wild life,’” Kyogoku said. “So he may not see the necessity of adding new resident support services. But then if you do upgrade to a house, he may see a need for some sort of new facility.”

Nogami also said that it’d probably be odd if an outdoorsy player living in a humble shack were to have a convenience store built right next door to their house.

“Tom Nook is paying attention to those sorts of things and makes sure he’s providing what the resident needs and will develop as he sees fit,” IGN notes.
