Animal Crossing: New Horizons will not support transfers between Nintendo Switch systems

It’s been confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will not support either user or save data migration between Nintendo Switch consoles.

This information comes from an article on the official Japanese Nintendo website, which was translated thanks to the efforts of Twitter user Alex Aniel and the Australian Nintendo news site Vooks.

This means players will be unable to transfer their game save data to a secondary Switch console or, say, a brand-new one when it comes out.

“This game does not support User Migration or Save Data Migration functionalities. If you purchase a second Nintendo Switch, you will not be able to move your original island to the other unit.”

It sounds as though you’ll be completely locked to the Switch console you start your Animal Crossing: New Horizons game on; if you ever decide to purchase a new system, you’ll have to start your game over.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches worldwide on March 20th, 2020.
